The Best Picnic Spots in Florence and Around

Some set it up with a blanket spread on the grass; others prefer to rely on ready-made baskets, thoughtfully put together down to the last detail. Either way, the picnic remains one of the best-loved rituals of the warm season — a chance to slow down, spend time outdoors, and share a lunch or dinner in good company.

In recent years Florence, too, has seen a growing number of places offering experiences designed to enjoy the city in a different way, among local flavors, hidden gardens, and panoramic views far from the more touristy routes. From historic villas to city parks and the hills that ring the Tuscan capital, here are some of the most interesting picnics to try.

Picnics in Florence

La Bisegna

For those who’d rather think only about choosing the perfect spot to spread the blanket, La Bisegna offers a complete experience. The basket includes five courses selected from the seasonal menu, with options suited to specific dietary needs.

Everything for a proper picnic is there too: a checkered tablecloth, tableware, cutlery, and even cushions to sit comfortably and enjoy the moment outdoors. The experience is available Monday to Friday, both at lunch and at dinner.

Parco di Villa Demidoff

Inside the historic Medici Park of Pratolino, the restaurant Locanda offers a picnic surrounded by the greenery of one of the most fascinating historic estates in the Florence area.

From cheese-and-cold-cut boards to Mugello-style tortelli, by way of stuffed schiacciata flatbreads and other Tuscan specialties, you can pick up your lunch and choose whether to settle at the park’s tables or find a quiet corner among the meadows and centuries-old trees.

Villa Bardini

Among the most elegant picnics in the city is the one at Villa Bardini, famous for its gardens and its spectacular view over the rooftops of Florence.

The baskets, prepared by La Leggenda dei Frati, offer a selection of savory and sweet specialties, with vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free versions available on request. Once you’ve picked up your basket, all that’s left is to choose your favorite panoramic spot and enjoy the experience.

Check the schedule: both daytime and evening slots are available.

Giardino dell’Orticoltura

Yoga and picnic: a pairing designed for anyone who wants a few hours of relaxation in the setting of the Giardino dell’Orticoltura.

At the end of the class, participants can enjoy a basket prepared by Fancy Bakery Coffee — three savory options, three sweet ones, pastries, filled rolls, and a cool drink — surrounded by the greenery of one of the city’s most charming gardens.

(Picnics will resume in September, for greater comfort during the practice and the picnic itself.) Check the calendar of available dates.

EdV Garden

A hidden garden, little known, with a privileged view over Florence. EdV Garden is the ideal choice for anyone looking for a quiet spot to enjoy their picnic — made at home or bought at a favorite deli.

The experience, though, goes beyond lunch in the open air. Admission also includes a visit to the garden with an audio guide and map, turning the picnic into a chance to discover a space rich in art, history, and nature.

Il Grumolo

In Carmignano, Il Grumolo offers an experience that brings together food, sustainability, and a sense of place.

The wicker basket holds a selection of products made with seasonal ingredients: cold-cut and cheese boards paired with the farm’s own honey, bruschetta topped with edible flowers, vegetables picked just hours earlier, couscous, water, natural apple juice, and a bottle of wine included.

All to be enjoyed deep in the Tuscan countryside, with a view that stretches all the way to the city. This season the space is open for picnics at dinner only — or for lunch on special request — to ensure a more pleasant experience in the cooler hours.

Colli Marliano

Among the hills of Lastra a Signa, the Colli Marliano farm offers a picnic perfect for anyone after a summer evening in touch with nature.

The basket includes fresh dishes like farro salad, stuffed schiacciate, and a bottle of wine. What makes the experience even more special are the farm’s alpacas, which you can interact with by following the instructions provided and using the feed included in the basket.

An original idea for spending a few hours outdoors, among good food and rolling hills just a few kilometers from Florence.
