Music Between the Sacred and the Contemporary: Musicus Concentus Opens Its Fall 2026 Season
An ongoing dialogue between historical memory, sonic research and contemporary languages. That is how the new Musicus Concentus fall 2026 season presents itself: from September 24 through December, it offers a packed calendar of events within the project Tradizione in Movimento (“Tradition in Motion”). Set against the evocative backdrops of Florence’s Duomo and the Museo dell’Opera, the historic stage of Sala Vanni, Teatro Giotto in Vicchio and The Cage in Livorno, the series ranges from Italian singer-songwriters to international jazz, always with a close eye on young talent.
Special event: Davide “Boosta” Dileo in the Cathedral
A work for the space, conceived for the acoustics and the spiritual dimension of the Duomo.
The centerpiece of the fall will be the world premiere of Lux Non Finita (“Light Without End”), scheduled for Thursday, November 19 inside the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.
Born from the meeting between Musicus Concentus and the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, the body that looks after the cathedral, the project stars Davide “Boosta” Dileo (co-founder of Subsonica). The concept: the monodic chant of the sacred and Gregorian tradition in dialogue with Boosta’s spare, meditative electronics. Joining the Turin musician on stage will be the strings and brass of the Ensemble Suoni Riflessi (conducted by Maestro Mario Ancillotti) and the Coro della Cappella Musicale della Cattedrale di Firenze, the cathedral choir (conducted by Maestro Michele Manganelli).
The concerts at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo
For the fourth year running, the partnership with the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore brings three exceptional concerts with free admission (reservation required):
September 24 – Motta: The singer-songwriter opens the season as a guest of Indieretta Show, the music salon hosted by Francesco “Maestro” Pellegrini. An intimate evening of words and songs marking ten years since his album La fine dei vent’anni (“The End of Your Twenties”);
October 29 – Norma Winstone & Glauco Venier: One of the historic voices of European jazz meets the pianist and composer from Friuli for an evening presented by A Jazz Supreme;
December 3 – Tania Giannouli: The Greek pianist, named Rising Star Pianist of the Year 2025 by DownBeat, returns to Florence for the series I Poeti del Piano Solo (“The Poets of Solo Piano”).
Paolo Fresu and 10 years of A Jazz Supreme at Sala Vanni
On Friday, October 16, Florence’s historic Sala Vanni will host a special event celebrating the tenth anniversary of A Jazz Supreme.
“Trumpet Talk” is an evening of music and conversation that will bring the celebrated trumpeter Paolo Fresu to the stage of the auditorium in Piazza del Carmine, in dialogue with Fernando Fanutti, president of Musicus Concentus.
Making room for the young: Vicchio and Livorno
The Musicus Concentus season reaffirms its commitment to education by showcasing the talent of the new generations:
Jazz Prime in Vicchio (October 23 – Teatro Giotto): Students of Florence’s Conservatorio “Luigi Cherubini” will present two orchestral tributes: Ten for Ken, dedicated to the trumpeter Kenny Wheeler, and Cent’anni di Piero Umiliani, a fresh reading of the great composer’s work on the centenary of his birth;
My Generation in Livorno (October – December, The Cage): Six nights devoted to the new names of the contemporary scene. It kicks off on Saturday, October 10 with the release party for Mr Bison’s sixth album, The Garden of Forgotten Dreams.
