GO DUGONG fa NOVANTA

Go Dugong

La regola “less is more” è stata totalmente bandita.

>>>>English version
On 27th November the new album by Go Dugong for Fresh Yo! and 24 records, with the collaboration of Bizzarre Love Triangles, will come out. It’s called NOVANTA.
Giulio Fonseca founded the Go Dugong during a pause of his previous band, the Kobenhavn Store. Go Dugong is now one of the most interesting artists of the national electronic scene. This project develops from Gold Panda, Four Tet and the hip hop of the 90s. Then he found his personal style, moving to a more funk, jazz and soul sound, till the most remote depths of the African, Caribbean and Asian music. The name NOVANTA sums up two important souls for the Go Dugong’s music: on one side the city, Milan, with its line 90 so full of cultural differences; on the other side the sounds from the 90s, mainly hip hop.
«At the bottom there is the metropolis of the 2010s, characterised by a mix of ethnic groups, cultures, flavours, smells and sounds. Within some years this could be the base for some more new artistic ideas. The integration of the different ethnic groups will lead to a higher open-mindedness», says Giulio. From this urban context, from the roots of its sound, Go Dugong moves like a mosaic artist composing a big musical tapestry. «Inside NOVANTA there are Latin America, Middle East, Balkans, Africa and Asia, all mixed together to create unique sound twinings: a trip on the line 90 which takes you from one quarter to another, each characterised by a dominant ethnic group».
NOVANTA is both the reflection of the city where it has been written and of a lot of other realities of the peninsula. It is a work in progress started two years ago, a very complex product with collaborations of some of the most important artists of the Italian electronic scene: Tio Scooby & Dj Jorgecuts, Biga aka El Climatico, Millelemmi, Tankurt MANAS, Rayna, Godblesscomputers, Dyami Young by the Apes on Tapes, Bioshi Kun, and Franky B. A particular attention has been given to the graphic layout of the album made by Jonathan Tegelaars (whom we talked in the 16th number of FUL). Tegelaars is a young artist, full of colours and details, who has been chosen to make a contrast with the minimalistic trend taken by Fresh Yo! for the previous album. «The artwork had to succeed in communicating all the complexity of my album, as a collage of different ethnic peculiarities and the urban context. It had to represent the chaos of the metropolis; therefore we could not be minimalists. The rule “less is more” has been banished, as for the writing of the album: each song has a huge number of tracks, sounds and samples. I saw Jonathan’s works on FUL for the first time and I felt in love with them. I immediately thought that he could be the right person to communicate what I had in mind».
On 27th November we will lean the vinyl point on the disk so that the kaleidoscope of sounds and the colourful images of Tegelaars will come alive. In the meantime we can’t wait to go to their concert in Florence!
